The SIRS Standby Compass has been specifically designed for the aircraft environment. It is used by leading military and civil aircraft manufacturers worldwide. The product has been continually developed to enhance modern technology and Materials with a simple reliable design that boasts a mean time between failure  >50,000 hours and world-wide sales of over 100,000.

SIRS Standby Compasses are self contained units suitable for instrument panel or eye level installation. No power is required for operation except for lighting. Various Illumination options are available with White/Blue, Red or NVG compatible filters.

Aircraft heading is read from the horizontally mounted compass card relative to a vertical lubber line. The front surface of the bowl is spherical giving a clear magnified image with anti-glare vision that can be easily read from a distance of up to 2 metres.

The four cardinal headings are clearly identified in bold legend against a matt black background, with numerals every 30° (except at cardinal headings) and 10° bars with 5° dots.

The Compass has fully integrated correction facilities utilising four corrector magnets to ensure consistent control of "B" & "C" coefficients across the whole azimuth range. The complete compass (E2 only) may be rotated to correct errors due to coefficient "A".

The unit is filled with silicone fluid to damp movement of the compass card. Metal bellows compensate for expansion and contraction of the fluid resulting from changes in temperature and altitude and provide long term reliability.

All compasses in the range meet the requirements of TSO C7d, RTCA D0160D and incorporate the requirements of AS-398A. Units are approved by both the FAA and CAA.
